Adopt a Student

According to a policy of a nine-year compulsory education system in China, in the poor counties under the national support program, students need to only pay miscellaneous fees and textbook fees during their nine-year study in primary school and junior high school. But as it is a policy and not yet fully functioning as a law, some children are still asked to pay tuition or other related educational fees. Even if they are only required to pay the textbooks and miscellaneous fees, at several hundred RMB per year, it puts attending school out of their reach financially.

Because school costs still remain out of the reach of many families across rural China, there is a need for someone to stand in the gap to provide an educational foundation for the future of their children. Those children who miss out on their education have little hope of ever improving their socio-economic condition. To improve access to basic education in rural China, Operation Blessing China has developed a key initiative, the Adopt-a-Student program. Through this program, Operation Blessing China provides scholarships for various educational fees such as tuition, textbooks, and other related schools costs. During frequent field visits to impoverished rural areas, we identify and then verify deserving children in need of financial assistance for their education. Companies or individuals can then “adopt” students whose families are unable to afford their public school educational costs.

Operation Blessing China also has education projects that deal specifically with migrant schools in the Beijing area that are created out of the needs of the children of migrant workers who arrive for work opportunities.

It is Operation Blessing China’s commitment to see each child we help through to completing nine-years of schooling – completing lower middle school. We are able to achieve this through our partners – you – the child’s sponsor - and tireless volunteer individuals and organizations that assist us in the field.
